Most of Mikael Melbye's portraits are made with oil on canvas, but also wood panel is an option.
Sometimes multiple canvases are used to convey a specifc setting, for instance the double portrait of the Carnegies in their sofa, or the paintings of the Stenderup family, in which the father of the family is portrayed looking back at his wife and daughters.
